EU corrects platinum code in Belarus sanctions rules
The European Union corrected a tariff-code error affecting the scope of platinum import restrictions under its Belarus sanctions regime, refining the classification data used by trade compliance teams.
BRUSSELS, August 11, 2026 — The European Union corrected a tariff-code error in its Belarus sanctions rules, replacing an incorrect reference in the exception to restrictions covering certain platinum products.
The correction changes CN code “7210 29” to “7110 29” in the platinum entry of Council Regulation (EU) 2026/513. The entry covers platinum in unwrought, semi-manufactured or powder form, with exceptions for CN codes 7110 21 and 7110 29.
The corrigendum was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Aug. 11. It relates to the regulation adopted April 23, which amended EU restrictive measures concerning the situation in Belarus and the country’s involvement in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
The corrected platinum entry sits within a broader list of goods subject to import restrictions intended to limit Belarus’ sources of revenue. That list also includes certain raw materials, minerals, chemicals, metals, rubber products and tanned furskins.
Although the update changes only one digit sequence, the correction is relevant to sanctions and customs screening because it clarifies which platinum classifications are excluded from the restricted entry. Internal trade-control data based on the original text may still contain the incorrect code.
