UN Libya committee lists Avax, imposes petroleum restrictions

UNITED NATIONS, July 22, 2026 — The UN Security Council’s Libya sanctions committee listed the Cameroon-flagged vessel Avax for one year, imposing shipping, port-service and financial restrictions tied to attempts to illicitly export petroleum from Libya.

The designation prohibits the vessel from loading, transporting or discharging petroleum and from entering ports. It also bars bunkering and other vessel services, as well as financial transactions involving petroleum.

Avax was added under the Libya sanctions regime as entity LYe.006. The listing identifies the ship by International Maritime Organization number 9058713 and gives no aliases, former names or address. As of April 4, it was located near the anchorage area of Benghazi Old Harbour in Libya.

The restrictions run from July 22, 2026, through July 22, 2027, unless the committee ends the designation earlier. They were imposed under Security Council Resolution 2146, as amended and extended through Resolution 2819.

The addition also updated the UN Security Council’s consolidated sanctions list. For compliance teams, the vessel’s name, IMO number and Cameroon flag provide the core identifiers for screening, while the listing’s operational restrictions define the prohibited port, service, transport and petroleum-related financial activity.
