The U.S. government designated Iran’s Fardis Prison and announced additional sanctions targeting Iranian security officials and networks linked to Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical revenues, according to a State Department press statement.
The State Department said the designation of Fardis Prison relates to allegations that women have endured “cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment” at the institution.
Who is affected
The statement said the Treasury Department is sanctioning several Iranian security officials, including Ali Larijani, identified as the secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council for National Security (SCNS).
It also said Treasury is designating 18 individuals and entities tied to Iran’s “shadow banking” networks that the U.S. says laundered proceeds from Iranian petroleum and petrochemical sales.

The State Department said the actions were taken pursuant to Executive Order 13553, Executive Order 13876, Executive Order 13902, and the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.
The statement said the action further implements National Security Presidential Memorandum-2 of 2025.
