UK sanctions five people over violence against Palestinians

LONDON, September 8, 2026 — The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office added Ben-Zion Gopstein, Meir Mordechai Ettinger, Eliav Libi, Baruch Marzel and Avichai Suissa to the UK Sanctions List on Tuesday. All five are subject to asset freezes, travel bans and director disqualification sanctions.

The government said Gopstein had facilitated, incited, promoted or supported violence against Palestinian individuals. It gave similar grounds for Ettinger, saying he had supported violence against Palestinians in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Libi was designated over alleged involvement in threatening Palestinians and perpetuating acts of aggression and violence against them. Marzel was sanctioned for allegedly facilitating, inciting, promoting and supporting violence against Palestinian individuals.

The notice also lists Avichai Suissa, an Israeli national with an address in the West Bank, among the five new designations.

The measures were imposed under the Global Human Rights Sanctions Regulations 2020. UK asset-freeze rules prohibit people and firms subject to British jurisdiction from dealing with frozen funds or economic resources, or making them available to designated persons without an applicable exemption or licence.
