UK revokes shipping sanctions on Astra oil tanker
Britain has revoked shipping sanctions on the Vietnam-flagged oil tanker Astra, removing a vessel previously targeted for transporting Russian-origin oil to third countries.
LONDON, September 21, 2026 — The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it had removed Astra, IMO 9273387, from the UK Sanctions List following an official decision-making process. The notice said the ship is no longer subject to the shipping sanctions attached to the listing.
Astra, an oil tanker operated by Stravax Shipping Co. Ltd. and believed to be flagged in Vietnam, had been specified by Britain on Sept. 12, 2025. The government said at the time of the listing that Astra was involved in carrying Russian-origin oil or oil products from Russia to a third country.
The restrictions had prohibited the vessel from accessing UK ports and allowed authorities to issue port-barring, detention, entry or movement directions.
Astra was among 70 ships specified under the Russia sanctions regime on Sept. 12, 2025, as Britain expanded measures targeting vessels connected with Russian trade.
The Sept. 21 notice did not give a specific reason for revoking Astra's listing beyond stating that revocations follow an official decision-making process.
