BRUSSELS, April 27, 2026 — The Council of the European Union said it has extended restrictive measures on Myanmar until April 30, 2027, following its annual review of the bloc’s sanctions regime. The council said the move reflects the continuing grave situation in Myanmar, including actions undermining democracy and serious human rights violations.

The review leaves EU sanctions in force against 105 individuals and 22 entities. The council also removed one deceased individual from the list. Those designated remain subject to asset freezes, while EU persons and companies are barred from making funds or economic resources available to them, directly or indirectly. Listed individuals are also subject to an EU travel ban.

The bloc said other restrictions remain in place, including an arms embargo, limits on equipment that could be used for internal repression or communications monitoring, a ban on dual-use goods for Myanmar’s military and border guard police, and a prohibition on military training and cooperation with the Myanmar Armed Forces, or Tatmadaw.

Beyond formal sanctions, the EU said it continues to withhold direct financial assistance to Myanmar’s government and freeze aid that could be seen as legitimizing the junta. The bloc again condemned the military’s actions since the Feb. 1, 2021, coup and said it remains ready to impose additional measures on those responsible for serious human rights violations, while seeking to avoid harm to Myanmar’s population.
